Everyone thinks that if you are an artist, you can do anything remotely "artistic" (even artists think this.) Well, it may be true to a point, but I have recently discovered that my calling is and never will be cake decorating (there goes that café idea!). I may make exceptions for certain people.
Here is how the cake turned out. (I did not make the cupcakes, but I did make the cupcake stand.)
My sister-in-law does a much better job at cakes!

You did a great job and I'm sure she appreciated your work. What'd you make that cake stand out of?
Heavy duty foam core, acrylic paint, ribbon on the edges, and the center core is styrofoam cubes covered with black florist ribbon.
